Door County Helps Wisconsin Bundle Up This Winter
Door County’s tourism industry is collecting new and gently used coats, scarves, hats, mittens and other warm clothing items starting today as part of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s “Big Bundle Up” donation campaign. The campaign is a statewide collection program that runs from November 16, 2017 to January 2, 2018. All items donated locally will stay in Door County and be distributed throughout the county.
This is the seventh year of the program. Last winter a total of 31,697 items were donated to charities throughout Wisconsin. Since 2011, the campaign has totaled more than 103,400 donated items. In Door County, 4,255 items have been donated.
Nine different tourism organizations in Door County have committed to participate in this year’s “Big Bundle Up” cold weather clothing drive. Those organizations include the Door County Visitor Bureau, Baileys Harbor Community Association, Carlsville Business Association, Door County North, Egg Harbor Business Association, Fish Creek Civic Association, Jacksonport Information Center, Sister Bay Advancement Association, and the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center.
A container will be located at participating locations for donors to drop off new or gently used clothing items. When the drive concludes in January, items will be distributed back to Door County residents through local charity partners.
Jen Rogers, communication and PR manager for the Door County Visitor Bureau, is helping organize this year’s effort in Door County. “Last year we had a record breaking year with 1,300 items donated locally,” Rogers said. “I hope we can continue the amazing goodwill in the community and donate to more great causes this year,” she said.
