Four Local Projects Receive $250,000 in Latest Community Investment Fund Grants

November 20, 2024 – Door County, WI. Destination Door County (DDC) is excited to announce $250,000 has been awarded to four local projects as part of the latest round of grant awards from the organization’s Community Investment Fund.

The projects were awarded grants ranging from $50,000 to $75,000. Recipients included three local municipalities and the County of Door.

All awarded projects must meet specific requirements to qualify for funding. The dollars DDC uses for this program are generated from room taxes that overnight visitors to the county pay and that DDC receives as part of their agreement with the Door County Tourism Zone Commission. Wisconsin state statute dictates the use of those dollars.

"We are thrilled with the impact these funded projects have had on Door County, including the positive contributions these four new initiatives will bring to our community,” said Julie Gilbert, President/CEO of Destination Door County. “Our Community Investment Fund is achieving its purpose—encouraging and financially supporting meaningful local endeavors that create new or improved experiences for both visitors and residents," she stated.

The projects that were awarded funding in the program’s seventh grant cycle include:

  • Town of Gibraltar is awarded $75,000 towards the construction of a new trail connecting the recently acquired upper bluff park land to established trails in downtown Fish Creek, creating additional transportation and recreational opportunities in Northern Door County.
  • Town of Brussels is awarded $75,000 to create a more accessible town park through the construction of new ADA accessible restrooms at the much-used Brussels Town Park.
  • County of Door is awarded $50,000 to help create new exhibits at the Door County Museum and Archives focused on foundational Door County industries including timber, fishing, and stone.
  • Village of Egg Harbor is awarded $50,000 to repair a deteriorating break wall and install a kayak, canoe, and ice fishing access ramp, adding opportunities to use and enjoy Egg Harbor Beach Park.

These four projects join 33 local projects that previously received grant funding, bringing the total impact from DDC’s Community Investment Fund to $1,913,442 since the program began in May 2023.

The next grant application deadline is Monday, December 23, 2024, at 4 PM. Qualified applicants include 501(c)(3) public charities, 501(c)(6) organizations, and local units of government.
