Natural Discovery Group Tour Itinerary
Day 1
9:30 AM Consider arranging a tour with Door County Tours so you can be sure to see and visit all the area's outdoor hotspots. Choose from a selection of pre-planned tours or create your own.
10:00 AM Arrive at the Open Door Bird Sanctuary. Take part in a 1-hour program, learn about local birds of prey, and enjoy interactive exhibits.
12:00 PM Break for lunch at Inn at Cedar Crossing in the historic 3rd avenue district of Sturgeon Bay. Enjoy casual fare made with local ingredients.
1:00 PM Take a guided tour of the Collins Learning Center and the Heritage Village at the Crossroads at Big Creek, a 115-acre preserve focused on science, history, and the environment located in Sturgeon Bay.
3:00 PM Check into the hotel to refresh.
4:00 PM Attend a traditional Door County Fish Boil at The Viking Grill and Lounge located in Ellison Bay. Sit back and relax as Masterboiler Dan Peterson, a native of Door County, cooks locally caught Lake Michigan whitefish outdoors over an open fire just as Scandinavian settlers did more than 100 years ago. Traditional family-style fare and local favorites including hearty chili, homemade soup, cheeseburgers, BBQ chicken and ribs, along with choice steaks, are also available.
6:00 PM Rent bikes from the Edge of Park Bike & Moped Rental or Nor Door Sport & Cyclery or take a stroll along the tranquil Sunset Bike Trail in Peninsula State Park.
7:30 PM Make your way to the west end of Main Street where the road ends in Fish Creek to claim your spot for a breathtaking view of the sunset at Sunset Beach Park.
Day 2
9:30 AM Embark on a naturalist-guided hike at Wisconsin's oldest land trust and most biologically diverse area, The Ridges Sanctuary, located in Baileys Harbor. Uncover the history of the Ridges and the Baileys Harbor Range Lights as you explore the diverse flora and fauna of this unique area. Keep your eyes open for nesting cranes, Hine's Emerald dragonflies, monarch butterflies, and the occasional porcupine. Custom tours, including birding hot spots and wildflower hikes, are also available.
11:30 AM Enjoy a delicious lunch on the water at the Top Deck Restaurant and Bar in Baileys Harbor. They offer casual dining indoors or outdoors on their patio. Dishes include specialty sandwiches, great burgers, and more.
1:00 pm Paddle away on an adventure guided by the experts at Door County Kayak Tours or Peninsula Kayak Company. From beginner to expert, all skill sets are welcome to join. Choose from a variety of themes and subjects for the purpose of your tour including 1,000 year old caves, lighthouses, bluffs, shipwrecks, and more!
4:00 PM Return to the hotel to refresh and get a little R&R.
6:00 PM Satisfy the hearty appetite you worked-up all day with a scrumptious dinner at Alexander's in Fish Creek. Your group will enjoy their menu of delicious steaks, seafood, pasta, and more.
8:00 PM Enjoy an evening under the stars at the Northern Sky Theater. Nestled within Peninsula State Park, the Northern Sky Theatre is a treasured tradition on the Door County performing arts scene renowned for heartwarming musical comedies that delight men, women, and children of all ages.
Day 3
8:00 AM Indulge in a Swiss-German breakfast in a spectacular shoreline setting at Alpine Resort’s Hof Restaurant & Pub in Egg Harbor. Enjoy favorites like Swiss toast or German potato pancakes.
9:30 AM Arrive at Whitefish Dunes State Park located on the eastern side of the Peninsula. This 867-acre park is comprised of forest and dunes on the rugged Lake Michigan shore. Enjoy a 1 1/2 mile interpretive trail before exploring a mile of sand beach, two miles of rocky shoreline, and the highest sand dunes in Wisconsin.
10:30 AM Next, travel a short distance to Cave Point County Park. You will discover spectacular sea caves formed by the relentless water of Lake Michigan crashing against limestone bluffs that frame the shore. While here, arrange for a Segway the Door Tour or Off-Road Segway Adventures where you will glide and experience the majestic overlooks and hear the soothing sounds of the surf. Don't forget your camera to capture the natural beauty of this Door County treasure.
10:30 AM Build leadership skills at the Door County Adventure Center’s Team Leadership Center. Learn and challenge yourself as you increase your communication skills and think "outside the box" with a variety of programs, training seminars, and workshops.
12:30 PM On your way out, stop in at Sonny's Pizzeria where you can enjoy their scrumptious pizza buffet while enjoying the beautiful marina and waterfront view.
